The rally is an essential political event for the working class in the UK, faced with being plunged deeper into the imperialist war against Russia and the savage austerity and assault on democratic rights that war demands. The panel of speakers presents a unique opportunity to discuss an international struggle against capitalism, genocide and war and for socialism and the building of a revolutionary leadership.

Joseph Kishore, national secretary of the Socialist Equality Party in the United States, is standing for president in the country that is at the very centre of supporting the Gaza genocide and NATO’s war against Russia.

Christoph Vandreier, national secretary of the Sozialistische Gleichheitspartei, was the SGP’s lead candidate in the European elections, which saw substantial gains for far-right parties thanks overwhelmingly to the political betrayal of the social democratic parties, the trade unions and their pseudo-left hangers-on.

Alex Lantier, the national secretary of the Parti de l'égalité socialiste, will be speaking on the day France goes to the polls in the snap elections for the National Assembly called by President Macron—the main advocate for war against Russia.

SEP Assistant National Secretary Tom Scripps is standing against Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer in Holborn and St Pancras in London. The SEP’s manifesto for the British general election explains:

Sir Keir Starmer wants to form a government that continues the Conservative Party’s support for the Gaza genocide and the UK’s leading role in the US-led war with Russia. Labour backs sending NATO troops to Ukraine and missile strikes on Russian soil with NATO-supplied weapons that could drag the UK, Europe and the world into war. It is committed to strengthening Britain’s nuclear weapons programme, backed by Starmer’s pledge that he will use them.

That these are global issues that demand a global solution was confirmed by Macron’s decision to call a snap election in France, confirming that the European imperialist powers are seeking to politically prepare governments for a new stage of the war with Russia and the confrontation with the working class.

The SEP manifesto concludes:

To mobilise the immense social power of the working class against the capitalist class and its representatives means overcoming the gap between the advanced stage of the global crisis and the present level of mass political consciousness. This is only possible through the building of a Marxist-Trotskyist leadership and the revolutionary renewal of the international workers’ movement based on socialist policies.
